Location

The laboratory is located at 244 Greene St., on the northeast corner of the intersection of Greene and Waverly (see pdf). The laboratory is organized within the Center for Atmosphere-Ocean Science (CAOS) of the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences (CIMS), located at nearby 251 Mercer St.

The laboratory consists of two main rooms (see pdf): a control-room (shown in the foreground with the blue-white checker flooring), and a wet-room (shown in the background with the grey, non-slip flooring). A store room is also located nearby.

The control room is used to house a) the control unit for the turntable, b) the wireless notebook to contol the PIV/PLIF, c) a large-display plasma screen, and d) the human operators. There is a sliding door separating the control room from the wet room. During operation of the turntable and PIV/PLIF, the control room is isolated from the wet room, via a sliding doorway and black curtains, for safety reasons. The operators can observe the behavior of the turntable via the plasma screen.

The wet room houses a) the turntable, and b) the PIV/PLIF system (mounted to the turntable). The room has a non-slip coated floor, a low-height double-sink, a floor drain, and a high-weight-capacity high-shelf (located above the sink).

Equipment was moved into the new laboratory space during September, 2004. A photo record of the move is given here. Many thanks to the folks at LaVision who helped orchestrate the move and to numerous graduate students of CIMS who supplied necessary muscle power.

Maintenance

The laboratory space facilities are maintained by NYU's Maintenance & Operations (M&O). Request for small-jobs and maintenance can be made through the HelpDesk.
