Postdoctoral Opportunities

Research Program

The thrust of my research activity within the Center for Atmosphere-Ocean Science (CAOS) is towards understanding the role of the polar oceans in the global climate system. Through physically-based numerical models I address a variety of issues relating to the interaction of the global atmosphere with the ice and oceans of the polar environments. Perspective postdoctoral candidates with an interest in the above research area, or any related applied mathematical or computational science interests in problems of the global environment, are encouraged to contact me to discuss possible research and employment opportunities.

Position(s) Available - AOMIP
(Competition Closed)

The Center for Atmosphere-Ocean Science (CAOS) within the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to participate in the Arctic Ocean Modeling Intercomparison Project (AOMIP), a multi-institutional project supported by the International Arctic Research Center (IARC) of the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. The position will be held in New York City.

The fellow will be involved in:

Further details on the project are found at http://efdl.cims.nyu.edu/project_aomip/overview.html.

Suitable candidates will posses a Ph.D. in physical oceanography, atmospheric science, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related discipline. Those with a strong computational background and familiarity with manipulating and serving large data sets are especially encouraged to apply. The position is initially available for a one-year period, and is renewable for subsequent years subject to performance review and funding availability. The salary range is $40 - $60 K with an attractive benefits package offered.

Applicants should include a letter stating research interests, current curriculum vitae including a publications list, and the names of three references including one as thesis adviser. Review of applications will begin March 1, 2005 and will continue until a candidate is selected.
